VELUX
The Cultural Institute and the VELUX foundation in cooperation in Hungary
The Danish Cultural Institute in Hungary has in close cooperation with the regional social department of the Hungarian Order of the Maltes in Kecskemét developed and applied for a project under the VELUX foundation’s new social program for the Central and East European countries. The project is to establish a rehabilitation center for homeless to reprove the general situation for homeless in Hungary and to increase their chances for being a part of the work life and social integration. From 2007 it has been possible for one of the two VELUX Foundations’, VILLUM KANN RASMUSSEN Foundation’s, to increase the funds for non-profit social and environmental issues in these countries to improve the living standards and future chances of socially exposed children, young people and families and other groups living in poverty, such as homeless people. The Foundation wants to support the countries’ development of welfare and democracy. It is a pleasure for the Danish Cultural Institute that the application has found support by the Foundation and that the project creates basis for yet another example of successful Danish-Hungarian social and cultural cooperation.
The 3th May 2011 The VELUX Center for homeless was opened in Kecskemét.
